Sox prospect Ranaudo shines as team gets trounced by Twins

Red Sox prospect Anthony Ranaudo retired all six batters he faced in Boston’s 8-2 loss to the Minnesota Twins in Grapefruit League play Friday in Fort Myers, Fla.

In his first-ever action against big-league hitters, Ranaudo, Boston’s No. 6-ranked prospect, struck out four on 24 pitches, 19 strikes.

Twins starter Mike Pelfrey held the Red Sox Boston to one hit in his two innings.

Red Sox righty Dalier Hinojosa allowed four hits and three runs over 1 2/3 innings in his debut start.

Minnesota took a 3-0 lead in the fourth, with Trevor Plouffe, Oswaldo Arcia and Wilkin Ramirez all driving in runs.

Mike Napoli went 2-for-2 for Boston, which didn’t score until the sixth, when prospect Bryce Brentz homered off Twins reliever Casey Fien.

Sox reliever Andrew Miller, pitching for the first time since breaking his foot last July, walked three and allowed three runs in two-thirds of an inning.
