Admirals finish sweep of Monarchs in Virginia

The Norfolk Admirals completed a weekend sweep of the visiting Manchester Monarchs with a 4-1 win Saturday night.

The Monarchs fell to 36-16-8. Norfolk improved to 31-17-8. Manchester begins a four-game homestand on Friday when Adirondack visits for a 7 p.m. game at Verizon Wireless Arena.

A three-goal second period was the downfall for the Monarchs. The game was tied 1-1 after one, but Norfolk took control in the middle frame.

Dave Steckel scored at 13:02 to make it 2-1 Norfolk, looping a wobbler past goalie J.F. Berube from the left circle.

Chris Wagner pushed the lead to 3-1 at 16:11, beating Berube on a breakaway after Manchester had a scoring flurry on the other end come up empty.

Steve Eminger made it 4-1 with a power-play goal with 1.8 seconds remaining in the period. The third period played out scoreless.

Norfolk opened the scoring at 2:07 of the first period. Antoine Laganiere notched the goal, his eighth of the season.

Manchester tied the game at 11:29 of the first on Hunter Bishop's third goal of the year.
