Snowmobile hits fallen tree, injures man at Twin Mountain

LANCASTER — A Milford man was seriously hurt when his snowmobile hit a fallen tree at trailside and went out of control, throwing the rider from the machine.

State Fish and Game officials said James Atwood, 24, was on Trail 102 in Twin Mountain when the fallen tree went through the cowl on his snowmobile, knocking his off. Snowmobiles and a specialized rescue sled were used to remove Atwood from the trail. He was taken to Littleton Regional Hospital, where his injuries were described as serious but not life-threatening.

Officers said speed was a contributing factor to the crash.
