Not so Fasth

There are trade rumors the Anaheim Ducks are willing to deal backup goalie Viktor Fasth for the right price. Over the weekend, the Manchester Monarchs were probably wishing Fasth had packed his bags and left town.

Fasth spearheaded an American Hockey League weekend sweep of Manchester, leading East Division-leading Norfolk to a 4-1 win Saturday and 3-2 triumph Friday at the Scope Arena in Norfolk, Va.

Manchester (36-16-2-6) leads the Atlantic Division and owns the best record in the American Hockey League with 80 points.

Fasth, coming off the disabled list last week with a muscle inflammation in his lower-body, was making his second and third rehab starts against Manchester over the weekend.

He had 26 saves both nights against the Monarchs.

Manchester’s loss on Friday snapped a seven-game unbeaten streak and Saturday’s defeat gave the Monarchs their first two-game losing streak since Jan. 3.

On Saturday, former Monarchs center David Steckel (2004-05) scored his first points against Manchester. He notched the game-winning-goal and added an assist.

Hunter Bishop scored Manchester’s only goal Saturday in the first period, tying the game.

Monarchs’ netminder J.F. Berube (19-14-2) stopped 28 of 32 shots,

Manchester will host three games this coming weekend at Verizon Wireless Arena.

They face last-place Adirondack of the Northeast Division on Friday at 7 p.m.

On Saturday in a 3 p.m. start, the Providence Bruins invade the Queen City for an Atlantic Division test. On Sunday at 3 p.m., Hartford, in fourth place in the Northeast Division, completes the homestand. Nine of Manchester’s next 13 games are at home.
