March 03. 2014 7:14PM

MANCHESTER — Registration is open for spring classes at the Nackey S. Loeb School of Communications for anyone interested in travel writing, photography, cartooning and public relations.

The spring session runs from March 19 to April 23 and includes six weeks of Wednesday evening classes in advanced multimedia; cartooning and illustrations; Photoshop; public relations; and a new class, travel writing. All but Photoshop are offered free of charge.

If you like to travel, like to write and would like to possibly make some money writing about travel, the new travel-writing class is for you. Husband/wife team Stacy Milbouer and Tom Long will cover basics of travel writing, including pitches, ethics and publication. Milbouer and Long have written travel articles for many publications, including Yankee Magazine, and are regular contributors to New Hampshire Magazine. Class time is 5:30 to 7 p.m.

In advanced multimedia storytelling, Nashua Telegraph photo editor Don Himsel and photographer Geoff Forester teach a small class how to combine photos and sound to develop effective multimedia packages for business or organization websites or presentations. Students need a laptop, digital camera, cable or memory card to upload photos, digital recorder and cable to upload sound. This is not an introductory course.

It is strongly recommended that applicants have completed other Loeb School photography or multimedia classes. Class time is 5:30 to 7 p.m.

In cartooning and illustrations, graphic designer and illustrator Ron Plante helps students explore their creativity and visual conceptualization skills. Focusing on political and social commentary, students will create illustrations, beginning with sketches and developing an idea through to final artwork. This class is open to students age 16 and older. Class time is 7 to 8:30 p.m.

In Photoshop Elements 6: Beyond the Basics, instructor Debi Rapson builds on students' knowledge of basic Photoshop techniques to cover keyboard shortcuts and more advanced functions. Class time is 5:30 to 7 p.m. Fee is $50; $25 for ages 18 and under.

The public relations class covers the history and ethics of public relations, how to write effectively, PR tactics, media relations, crisis communications and PR in new media. It is popular among representatives from nonprofits and civic organizations and is taught by respected public relations professionals Jayme Simoes and Brett St. Clair of Louis Karno & Company Communications. Class time is 7 to 8:30 p.m.
