No home court for Saint Anselm in NCAA hoop tourney

GOFFSTOWN — It appears unlikely that the NCAA Division II basketball Northeast Regional tournament will be returning to New Hampshire this year.

St. Anselm College played host to the event last season at Southern New Hampshire University.

St. Anselm again put in a bid for the regionals, but this time wants to use its own gym.

The Hawks took a 20-6 overall record into Wednesday night’s NE-10 semifinal game and they likely had already done enough to secure an NCAA bid.

But Southern Connecticut State University of New Haven has a clear inside track on landing the Regionals.

The Owls were 25-2 going into Wednesday night’s home game against Le Moyne in the other Northeast-10 semifinal.

“We did everything we could to get to the point we could put in a bid, but we wanted to do it in our facility,” said St. Anselm interim director of athletics JoAnn Nester. “It’s not a home-court advantage when you go to your archrival’s home court.”
