NHIAA Basketball: Bedford girls top Trinity to advance

BEDFORD - Haley Driscoll had 11 points to lead the Bedford High School girls' basketball team past Trinity of Manchester, 53-34, in a Division I girls' basketball quarterfinal game Saturday night.

Trinity fell behind early and kept losing ground to Bedford, shooting just 20 percent from the field.

Bedford also limited second chance shots for Trinity with 28 defensive rebounds.

"We had a couple of different sets that we wanted to get in" said Trinity coach Matt Courchesne. "Bedford is a great team. They go out and do what they are supposed to do."

The top-seeded Bulldogs remain perfect at 20-0 and advance to the semifinals against either Nashua North or Dover on Wednesday at SNHU. Trinity ends its year with a 12-8 record.

The eighth-seeded Pioneers fell behind by eight after one quarter but managed to keep pace with Bedford into halftime, trailing 26-18.

But the Bulldogs pulled away with better rebounding and passing. Trinity scored just four points in the third quarter.

"Offensively I thought we could have done a better job working the ball more" said Bedford coach Sue Thomas. "We could have been a little more patient."

The Bulldogs shot 35 percent from the floor but their advantage in rebounding made up for it.

"But defensively we played really well because of the type of game Trinity plays" said Thomas.

McKenzie Brown scored 10 points and Bri Purcell had nine points for Bedford. Amanda Torres led Trinity with 12 points.

"She's a great player. She knows how to penetrate" said Thomas about Torres. "But we did a good job slowing her down some. Switching to a zone defense helped."
