NHIAA Girls' Basketball: Campbell tops Fall Mountain for second D-III championship
"We decided it was time to let the dogs out, as we call it," Campbell coach Robert Allan said. "We saw we were getting beat down low in the post. We had to get them running up and down the court.
Fall Mountain had an 18-11 lead two minutes into the second quarter, but Campbell's press sparked a 12-0 run that gave the Cougars a lead they wouldn't relinquish. Campbell led 25-22 at halftime and took control by outscoring the Wildcats 17-6 in the third.Fall Mountain center Peighton Alhberg was dominant early. She scored eight points in the first quarter, but sat for most of the second quarter with two fouls. She didn't score again until there was 5:38 to play.
Campbell's depth was on display as well, as three Cougars scored in double figures. Freshman Hannah Fabiano scored a game-high 14 points in 13 minutes. Kylee Julia added 12 and Hannah Neild finished with 11. Campbell's Alexandria Trevains finished with six points and a game-high six rebounds.
The Wildcats, who were seeking their first state championship since 1983, completed their season with a 19-3 record.
Fall Mountain was within nine points in the fourth, but three Wildcats - Aumand, Morgan Ferland and Roberts - fouled out in the final 4:15.
