Litchfield woman charged in theft at local grocery store
MANCHESTER -; A Litchfield woman has been arrested and accused of stealing $333 in cash that a 65-year-old woman mistakenly left behind in an envelope at the courtesy counter of a local grocery store.
Police said the victim went to Hannaford on John E. Devine Drive Jan. 15 to purchase some money orders to cover her bills. After completing the transactions, she left the store but forgot an envelope containing the cash at the courtesy counter.
When she returned, the envelope was gone.
Manchester police detective David Dupont interviewed the victim, who police said was devastated because she and her spouse live on a fixed income and now they can't pay their bills.
Ultimately, police said Dupont identified the thief as Donna Dimambro, 63, of Litchfield, who was arrested Feb. 24 at her home.
She is to be arraigned March 14 in 9th Circuit Court, Manchester District Division, on a charge of theft by unauthorized taking.
Police did not recover the money.
