Another plane hits frozen Alton Bay

ALTON — For the second time in three days, a plane had an accident on the ice of the Alton Bay Airport. No one was hurt.

“Seems like we’re having a fire sale on plane crashes,” chuckled Fire Chief Scott Williams.

Police and fire-rescue crews were called to the ice airport at 1:58 p.m. Monday for a report of a plane crash at the 2,600-foot airstrip.

They found that a plane slid into a snow bank as it taxied to park after landing, Williams said.

The accident was about 200 yards from the site where a Hampton Falls man crashed his plane as he landed Saturday. The pilot was not injured in that accident.

For now, both planes are still on the ice. Once removed, the accidents will be investigated by the FAA, authorities said.
