DERRY?Despite the mild conditions, turnout was light and only about 300 people had voted as of early Tuesday afternoon, according to officials.
The small turnout could be attributed partly to the lack of contested races, said Town Clerk Denise Neale.
This year there is only one seat contested on the Town Council, and just two incumbents are running unopposed on the School Board, Neale said from the Pinkerton Academy polling site.
"There isn't even a contested School Board race," Neale said.
There are approximately 20,000 registered voters in Derry. Neale and other officials are hoping that at least 300 more people will cast ballots before the polls close at 8 p.m., which would result in a 3 percent turnout.
