Steady voter turnout in Amherst

AMHERST -- According to Town Moderator Steve Coughlan, about 963 ballots were cast as of noontime at Souhegan High School in Amherst.

"That is right on track for an average election," said Coughlan, adding there are about 8,672 registered voters in town. "There are some contentious issues on the ballot, and it is still early."

Among those items are some proposed zoning changes that some people favor because they would allow for additional playing fields at Acorn Fields on Stearns Road. Others are opposed because they believe the changes will strip the planning board of control over potential commercial development.
