Mascoma School District voters approve high school renovation plan
CANAAN— Third time was the charm for the Mascoma Valley Regional High School renovation project that won the supermajority it needed Tuesday to move forward.
Voters on Tuesday in the Mascoma School District, which includes Canaan, Dorchester, Enfield, Grafton and Orange, said yes to the $21.5 million renovation project 2,227 to 1,310.
"We're pleased to fix the high school and deal with some of the problems that have been there a long time," Mascoma School District Superintendent Patrick Andrew said.
This was the third time school district voters were asked to approve a bond to renovate the high school, Andrew said. The school district now has permission from the voters to take out three loans totaling $1,373,987 to fund the project.
Work to garner permits and to design the project will begin this year, but the actual project is planned to begin the summer of 2015 and is expected to take three years. Voters also approved the proposed $22,789,734 budget.
