Bedford votes down fire substation; $30M for roads approved

BEDFORD – Voters said yes to the $30 million road bond that will repair about 150 roads, but failed to approve the $3.8 million bond for a fire substation.

The road bond garnered 72 percent majority votes. The fire substation bond failed to get two-thirds ballot vote by 461 votes. The bond would have built a fire substation along South River Road.

Town Councilor Chris Bandazian and Jim Aguiar won two, three-year seats in a hot race against Free Stater Matt Philips, who has lived in town for about nine months, and David Coles. Town Clerk Lori Radke also won re-election against challengers Diane O'Neil and Courtney Hodgdon.

Town Moderator Brian Shaughnessy was also re-elected against Barbara Chagnon.

On the school side, the $64 million operating budget passed by 2,701 to 1,932, as well as the teachers and support staff contracts.
School Board incumbent Bill Foote and Bill Kassler won the three-year seat against Free Stater Aaron Day and Jen D'Angelis.
