Several pets succumb to fire at Farmington home Thursday

FARMINGTON — Although a fire caused the death of several pets which were inside, area firefighters prevented it from spreading throughout the whole home Thursday afternoon.

Police, firefighters and emergency personnel responded around 3:45 p.m. after heavy smoke was spotted coming from the rear of a home at 17 Labrador Dr.

Local crews were assisted by firefighters from Milton and Rochester at the scene.

The homeowner profusely thanked them for their help, especially after Milton firefighters retrieved a pair of stuffed animals — two giraffes who were long-time companions of her daughter.

The family, who is staying with relatives, did not linger long at the cold scene while firefighters continued to look for hot spots and begin their investigation.
