NFL Roundup: Pats sign cornerback Browner
The New England Patriots have reached agreement with free-agent cornerback Brandon Browner on a three-year, $17 million contract, NFL.com reported Friday.
Browner will pair with another recent acquisition, cornerback Darrelle Revis.
Browner is scheduled to miss the first four games of the 2014 season because of an NFL suspension.
Browner was a Pro Bowl selection for Seattle in 2011, but he struggled somewhat last season with the Seahawks. He played in eight games last season, all as a starter, and had one interception.
Receiver Smith to Ravens
Veteran wide receiver Steve Smith, who was released by the Carolina Panthers on Thursday, did not spend much time as a free agent as he agreed to sign with the Baltimore Ravens on Friday, the team announced.
Adam Schefter of ESPN reported Smith agreed to a three-year deal, although financial terms were not available.
Smith will turn 35 in May. He is coming off another productive season, with 64 receptions for 745 yards and four touchdowns in 2013. His numbers tailed off a bit from the previous two seasons, when he had over 1,100 receiving yards 2011 and again in 2012.
He has been named to the Pro Bowl five times, most recently in 2011.
