College Hockey: Dartmouth drops series opener

Colin Stevens made 32 saves as the ECAC’s No. 1-seeded team, Union, blanked Dartmouth 3-0 in a quarterfinal matchup on Friday night in Schenectady, N.Y.

Daniel Carr scored two third-period goals, including an empty-netter with 1:26 to play, as Union moved to within one win of clinching a berth in the league semifinals. The teams play Game 2 of the best-of-three series tonight, with a third game necessary only if the Big Green win tonight.

Dartmouth goalie Charles Grant, who has been spectacular in the Big Green’s late-season rush, made 39 saves.

Union, the nation’s third-ranked team, improved to 25-6-4. Dartmouth dropped to 10-19-4.
