College Hockey: Union ousts Dartmouth in ECAC tournament

The Dartmouth College hockey team is done for the season.

Max Novak's goal halfway through the third period broke a 2-2 tie and top-seeded Union went on to a 4-2 victory on Saturday and a two-game sweep of the Big Green in their ECAC quarterfinal series in Schenectady, N.Y. The Dutchmen won Friday, 3-0.

Tenth-seeded Dartmouth finished 10-20-4. Union improved to 26-6-4 and moved on to the ECAC final four next weekend in Lake Placid, N.Y.

Dartmouth led 2-1 after one period, on goals by Brandon McNally and Tim O'Brien. But Union's Daniel Carr responded with the second period's only goal.

Daniel Ciampini scored an empty-net goal with 52 seconds remaining for the final tally.

Dartmouth's Charles Grant made 30 saves in defeat.

Union's Colin Stevens made 35 stops.
