Snowmobiler injured while riding on Thornton golf course

THORNTON — A man was injured on a local golf course Sunday when the snowmobile he was operating hit a sand trap.

According to Campton-Thornton Fire-Rescue Chief Dan Defosses, a man (whose name was not released Sunday) was riding a snowmobile along railroad tracks on the corridor 11 trail, when he pulled off the trail and onto a section of the Owl’s Nest Golf Course.

Defosses said the man didn’t realize he was passing over a sand trap. The vehicle hit the trap, the machine briefly became airborne and the man was thrown.

Defosses said the man suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries. First responders placed the man on a toboggan and carried him out to a waiting ambulance. He was taken to Speare Hospital for treatment.
