MANCHESTER — Keene coach Ray MacLean said there were two winners on the basketball court Sunday.

“We won the game, but Stevens won too,” said the coach. “You don’t know how wonderful it is to sit and watch these kids play. It’s a joy for me.”

Isaiah Singer scored nine points and had three rebounds to lead Keene to a 31-23 victory against Stevens of Claremont for the 2014 NHIAA Unified Coed Division I Basketball Tournament title at Southern New Hampshire University.

Keene finished its season with a 10-0 record and Stevens ended its campaign at 6-3.

Keene led 15-8 at halftime and 23-8 after three quarters before Stevens outscored the Blackbirds 15-8 in the last stanza.

Amber Hooper, Jacob Connant, Roger Carlson and Robbe Houston each netted four points in the win.

Tyler Erickson, on 8-of-21 shooting from the field, amassed a game-high 17 points for Stevens. Emily Root had four points and Ben King accounted for the other two points.

“This was Stevens’ first season in the program and they played really well all season,” said MacLean. “For all these kids to play in front of a big crowd is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.”

Erickson led Stevens with eight rebounds, followed by Kai Kleyensteuber with six. Brendan Corrigan had a game-high 10 rebounds for Keene.

This is the third time the NHIAA crowned a champion. In 2012 Hopkinton defeated Plymouth for the title and last season Nashua South defeated Spaulding of Rochester.
