Obamacare uses contracted “navigators” to help people sign up for health insurance. The law contains no provision requiring these people to submit to a background check. Republicans in the New Hampshire House want to require background checks for this state’s navigators, but House Democrats object. Why?
Last November, U.S. Sen John Cornyn, R-Texas, asked Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius: “So a convicted felon could be a navigator and could acquire sensitive personal information from an individual, unbeknownst to them?” Sebelius answered: “That is possible.”
Navigators handle sensitive information such as Social Security numbers. Background checks should be required. House Bill 1328 would do that. But it probably won’t pass. Democrats think it will slow down Obamacare signups. Politics before public safety. How awful.
