The Yankees hammered Red Sox starter Felix Doubront in New York’s 8-1 Grapefruit League win over Boston on Tuesday in Tampa.
Boston’s starter was tagged for seven runs, all earned, and 10 hits in 3 2/3 innings.
Mark Teixeira capped New York’s four-run second inning with a two-run single. Alfonso Soriano greeted reliever Brandon Workman with a two-run homer in the fourth to make the score 8-0. Soriano had two hits and drove in four runs.
Yankees starter Michael Pineda went 4 1/3 scoreless innings, allowing four hits.
Reserve outfielder Corey Brown scored Boston’s lone run after a seventh-inning double and an RBI hit from Jonathan Herrera.
The game was delayed for seven innings in the third inning because of a swarm of bees in left field.
