DOVER — The Margery Sullivan Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution presented the N.H. DAR Profile Award to Margaret Sumner at its March 3 meeting.The award recognizes DAR members who most personify the N.H. Society of DAR theme of “Celebrating and Strengthening a Lasting Profile of Patriotism and Service.”
She also is past president of the Durham Historical Society, where she serves as curator. She has volunteered at Operation Blessing in Portsmouth and as a Pease Greeter, and she has done school programs on the life of families during the Revolutionary War.
EFFINGHAM — The Effingham Historical Society will host a program at 7 p.m. Friday by Glenn Knoblock on “Historic Iron and Steel Bridges in New Hampshire.”
Knoblock, a Wolfeboro resident, moved to New Hampshire almost 30 years ago and has been researching and writing about state history ever since. Thirteen books later, his topics of interest have ranged from the history of brewing beer in the state to its historic burial grounds; an upcoming 14th book covers the history of American clipper ships.
MANCHESTER — Top of the Town Toastmasters will host its annual International Speech and Table Topics contests from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, March 28, at Manchester Community College Room 238, 1066 Front St.
