Munch Madness: Rochester offers tournament of eateries

ROCHESTER — As basketball fans watch for upsets and hope for victory, restaurants throughout the area are competing for top honors in a competition of their own.

Area residents can sample specials while supporting their favorite establishments during Munch Madness, which coincides with the annual collegiate basketball tournament.

“This promotion showcases the diversity of dining options in Rochester and encourages patrons to try different house specialties, although no purchase is necessary to cast your vote,” according to a news release.

As this is the first year, it is unclear whether the promotion has increased business, according to Mike Provost, director of Rochester Main Street.

After kicking off the event Sunday, the four venues that are the top seeds are Bella Fresca, Granite Steak & Grille, The Farmer’s Kitchen in Farmington and Windjammers Seafood.

Other participants include: Buffalo Wild Wings, Clemento’s Pizzeria & Brew, Domino’s Pizza, Draught Pick Pub, Fat Tony’s Italian Grill, Happy Pappy’s Country Store, La Corona Mexican Restaurant and Cantina, Lilac City Grille, Mel Flanagan’s Irish Pub & Café, Papaya Thai Restaurant, SK’s Greenside Grille at Rochester Country Club, Spaulding Steak & Ale, The Dynasty Restaurant, The Garage at The Governor’s Inn and The Portable Pantry.

Munch Madness, which runs until April 7, was organized by the Greater Rochester Chamber of Commerce, Rochester Economic Development Department, Rochester Main Street and area businesses.

Each Friday, Rochester Main Street will update the names of the top contenders in a release. Voting online is open at
