DURHAM - And the University of New Hampshire commencement address goes to ... Oscar-winning director Jennifer Lee, Class of '92.

Lee wrote and co-directed the Disney blockbuster "Frozen," which was named Best Animated Feature at the Academy Awards earlier this month. Frozen also garnered a number of industry honors before the Oscars and earned more than $1 billion.

"There has been a lot of buzz on campus about this Masdistinguished alumna, and many students expressed interest in having her be this year's speaker," UNH spokeswoman Erika Mantz said.

Mantz said Lee is the first woman to direct a film that surpassed $1 billion in earnings and the first writer at any major animation studio to become a director."

"Her story is inspiring and impressive, and we look forward to welcoming her back to campus," Mantz said.

Lee majored in English at UNH, receiving her bachelor's degree in 1992. She went on to work in publishing in New York, then studied film at Columbia University's School of Arts and received a master's degree in 2005.

The spring commencement ceremony is Saturday, May 17.
