As of March 31, utilities can begin sending shut-off notices to natural gas and electricity customers with past due bills, because the winter protection period is ending.Residents in Rockingham and Hillsborough counties can apply for fuel assistance up until April 30 by calling 1-800-322-1073, or by contacting the Southern New Hampshire Services/Rockingham Community Action office nearest to them.
Fuel Assistance will pay for oil, propane, wood, pellets, kerosene, natural gas or electric heat costs and payments can be made for a past due balance or as credit toward future use.
Income eligibility is up to $1,889 a month for one person and up to $3,871 a month for a family of four. Fuel Assistance can also be applied to rental cost if heat is included in rent.
