NH gymnasts shine

Portsmouth area gymnasts shine for Atlantic Level 9

PORTSMOUTH — The Level 9 gymnasts from Atlantic Gymnastics Training Center (AGTC) recently traveled to Cambridge, Mass., to compete in the Starlight Invitational. The meet was held at MIT, with teams across New England and New York competing.

Team scores are calculated by using the top three scores on each of the four events. With a small representation, the AGTC gymnasts needed to shine on each event as only one score could be dropped on each event and the other three scores would count toward the team overall score.

Three of the AGTC gymnasts were in the Senior B division. Kiana Cryan, of York, Maine, took top honors, receiving a gold medal on vault with an 8.95, beam with a 9.05, floor with a 9.00, and in the all around with a 34.60. Lara Weed, of Kingston, was right behind Cryan, earning a silver medal on vault with an 8.875, floor an 8.85, and in the all around with a 34.45. She also grabbed a gold on bars with an 8.575 and bronze on beam with an 8.15.

Savanna Desmarais, of Durham, snagged fourth place on vault with an 8.825, third place on bars with an 8.35, and fifth place in the all around.

In the Senior A division, Kirsten Sweetman, of Londonderry, finished fourth on vault with an 8.90, fifth on bars, second on beam with a 9.05, fourth on floor with an 8.95, and third in the all around with a 35.05.

The team, coached by Matthew Yellis, Allison Brisson and Cori Cunningham, took fourth place.
