NH flags ordered to fly at half-staff in honor of Boston firefighters

CONCORD – Gov. Maggie Hassan has directed flags to half-staff until sundown today in honor of Lt. Edward J. Walsh and firefighter Michael R. Kennedy of the Boston Fire Department, who lost their lives during Wednesday's nine-alarm blaze in Boston’s Back Bay.

“New Hampshire sends our thoughts and prayers to the family and loved ones of Lt. Walsh and firefighter Kennedy of the Boston Fire Department and to everyone impacted by yesterday’s devastating fire in Boston," the governor said in a prepared statement. "Lt. Walsh and firefighter Kennedy bravely rushed into the flames and made the ultimate sacrifice to protect their fellow citizens, demonstrating a truly heroic commitment to public service. This moment is a tragic reminder that all of our first responders courageously risk their lives every day to ensure public safety, and we owe them a never-ending debt of gratitude.”
