Retired Melkite Bishop Elya to attend Lenten dinner

MANCHESTER — Bishop John Elya, retired bishop and former spiritual leader of all the Melkite Catholics in the United States, is coming to the Queen City.

Elya will celebrate the Divine Liturgy and attend the Lenten Dinner at Our Lady of the Cedars Melkite Catholic Church on Sunday, March 30,

He was born in Maghdouche, Lebanon and is a member of the Basilian Salvatorian Order. He previously served the eparchy as a parish priest, and an instructor and rector of St. Basil’s Seminary.

He was assigned as pastor of Our Lady of the Cedars Church in Manchester on three occasions.
The bishop will preside at the 11 a.m. Divine Liturgy.

The parish’s annual Lenten dinner will begin at 1 p.m.,

Admission is $10 for adults and $3 for children under 12.
