Hooksett man arrested following I-93 police chase
DERRY — A Hooksett man was arrested by Derry police Sunday afternoon, following a police chase along Interstate 93 North through Salem and Windham.
According to New Hampshire state police, at 12:04 p.m. Sunday a state trooper attempted to stop a Volkswagen traveling northbound on I-93 near the Exit 1 off-ramp for a defective equipment violation. Police say the vehicle, identified as a 2003 Volkswagen GTI, stopped in the right breakdown lane just south of Exit 2.
As the state trooper exited his cruiser and approached the Volkswagen, the driver accelerated and merged back into the northbound travel lane. The state trooper briefly gave pursuit, but broke off from the chase after area police departments were notified.
Derry police located and attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver eluded them. Derry police later found the vehicle abandoned, and walking nearby was Kosmas Koustas, 35, of Hooksett. Koustas was identified as the driver of the vehicle, and arrested by Derry police.
Koustas was charged by Derry police with reckless operation and disobeying an officer.
State police are pursuing additional search warrants, and additional charges are expected pending their investigation.
