Bedford planning board to hold Wayfarer property site walk
BEDFORD — The planning board will conduct a site walk relating to the redevelopment of the Wayfarer property at 121 S. River Road.
The public is invited to attend today at 5:30 p.m.
The owners of the former Wayfarer Inn and Convention Center property are seeking approval from the planning board to subdivide the 16.2-acre property into five lots.
The plans calls for the razing of the hotel and conference center, and building a 48,800-square-foot retail space, a 2,900-square-foot bank, a 5,874-square-foot restaurant, a 4,089-square-foot fast food restaurant with drive-through, and a four-story, 72-unit multi-family apartment building with 4,500 square feet of office space.
Some board members have voiced concerns about preserving the historic Goffe’s Mill building and footbridge and traffic access from South River Road and the adjacent Bedford Mall.
According to Jeff Kevan of TFMoran engineering firm, the Goffe’s Mill and two dams on the property will remain, but the footbridge over Bowman Brook has to be removed because it is unsafe for pedestrian use.
