Sammy Hagar brings star-studded roster on road, plans NH stop

WALL OF FAME: Sammy Hagar gave voice to a string of Van Halen hits, including “Right Now,” “Why Can’t This be Love,” “Best of Both Worlds” and “When It’s Love.”

Sammy Hagar is the multi-platinum Red Rocker, the former front man of iconic hard-rock band Van Halen, a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and a player in the super group Chickenfoot.

He next taps into his star-studded roster of friends with a tour that includes former Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony, drummer Jason Bonham and guitarist Vic Johnson for a tour that will take audiences on a “Journey through the History of Rock.”

The road trip will include a stop at the Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom Wednesday, July 30. Throughout his prolific music career, Hagar was the recognizable voice behind hits including “I Can't Drive 55,” “Why Can't This Be Love,” “When It's Love” and “Right Now.”

He's also a philanthropist, New York Times best-selling author and entrepreneur with the Cabo Wabo Tequila brand, Sammy's Beach Bar Rum and several bars and restaurants.

Raised in Fontana, Calif., Hagar burst onto the scene in San Francisco as the lead singer of Montrose. Following a string of eight solo albums, culminating in several platinum efforts and hundreds of sold-out concert appearances across the country, Hagar joined Van Halen in 1985, helping the band to four consecutive No. 1 albums before the lineup broke up in the 1990s. He later returned to Van Halen for a 2004 reunion tour.

Tickets, which go on sale on Friday at 10 a.m., are $60-$65 at www.casinoballroom.com or 929-4100.
