4 New Hampshire utilities recognized by EPA for energy-efficiency efforts

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has recognized New Hampshire’s regulated utilities with a 2014 Energy Star Partner of the Year Award for outstanding contributions to reducing energy consumption by delivering energy-efficiency information and services to customers.

The utilities receiving the award are Public Service of New Hampshire, Liberty Utilities, Unitil and the N.H. Electric Cooperative

They were selected from the more than 16,000 organizations that participate in the Energy Star program. The award will be presented April 29 at an EPA ceremony in Washington, D.C.
In New Hampshire, the Core Energy Efficiency Programs implemented by the utilities have saved 10.2 billion “lifetime kilowatt-hours” of energy, benefiting both customers and the state economy. Based on the energy-efficiency program expenditures, this represents a return for customers of more than $6 for every program dollar invested, said PSNH spokesman Mike Skelton.
The New Hampshire utilities worked closely with the EPA to provide additional certification training for heating system contractors, partnered with the N.H. Home Builders Association for one-on-one marketing with builders, worked with Energy Star-certified home builders to share techniques with other builders, and educated home buyers through the statewide NHSaves catalog and website.
Energy Star was introduced by the EPA in 1992 as a voluntary, market-based partnership to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through increased energy efficiency. Visit or call 888-782-7937.
