Hooksett man charged over assault allegations at store
CONCORD — A Hooksett man faces a slew of sex-crime charges brought after police spoke to several customers of Jimmy's Smoke Shop who allege an employee had assaulted them inside the shop.
The alleged assaults happened between May 2013 and January, when police started investigating the complaints, according to a statement Concord police released yesterday.
Gulshan Sharma, 55, of Hooksett turned himself over to Concord police on Thursday, the day after warrants were issued for his arrest. He was processed and released on $1,000 cash bail.
Police said he faces two charges of aggravated felonious sexual assault, six misdemeanor sexual assault charges, four misdemeanor simple assault charges and a single misdemeanor charge of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Police said they were alerted to Sharma on Jan. 4, when a customer of Jimmy's Smoke Shop, 230 Loudon Road, said she was the victim of multiple sexual assaults inside the store.
Police eventually identified other women. One was about 20, another about 18. Both allege they were sexually assaulted inside Jimmy's.
Police eventually found two juvenile teenagers who made similar allegations. One reported that Sharma had given her a green smoking device, despite her age.
Sharma is scheduled to be arraigned on May 12 at Concord District Court.
