Authorities recapture inmate who walked away from Manchester halfway house

SOTO

MANCHESTER — An inmate who walked away from a halfway house Thursday morning was found five hours later at a city daytime center for the homeless.

Victor Soto Jr., 37, who was serving a 1½-to-5-year sentence for burglary out of Hillsborough County Superior Court, Northern District, went missing at 9:30 a.m. Thursday from the halfway house known as the Calumet Transitional Housing Unit on Lowell Street.By 2:40 p.m., however, he was in handcuffs after state Department of Corrections officers were tipped he could be found at the Homeless Services Center at 140 Central St., according to DOC spokesman Jeffrey Lyons. Soto allegedly tried to run away, but was quickly captured. He was back at the state prison in Concord just after 5 p.m.

Lyons said Soto, because he violated halfway house rules, will face disciplinary action up to being charged with escape, a class B felony that carries a maximum sentence of from 3½ to 7 years in prison.
