NH College Roundup: Palmer helps SNHU Penmen to doubleheader sweep

Riley Palmer of Goffstown had a three-run homer in the opener and Manny Cruz collected three hits and two RBIs in the nightcap to lead 12th-ranked Southern New Hampshire University to a Northeast-10 baseball doubleheader sweep of American International College, 8-4 and 6-3 Sunday at Penmen Field in Manchester.

The wins extended SNHU’s win streak to four. The Penmen are 21-7 overall and 9-3 in the NE-10.

In the opener, Al Stanton garnered three hits and two runs scored for the Penmen. Brendan O’Brien, Palmer and Alejandro Diaz each had two hits in the win. Palmer drove in four runs and his three-run homer gave the hosts a 3-1 third-inning lead. Joe McCarthy (3-0) of Nashua gained the mound win. He fanned nine in eight innings and allowed two hits.

In the nightcap, SNHU starter Alex Person went five innings on the hill to get the win. He whiffed six and scattered five hits. Benjamin Criscuolo struck out the side in the ninth for his fourth season save.

Brendan O’Brien had a total of six stolen bases, making him a perfect 26-for-26 in swipes this season. In the second game his third inning single was the 190th hit of his career. He is now second in hits in program history.
Daniel Webster 12, Lesley 6: In Nashua, Dan Ierardi paced a 14-hit attack with three hits for DWC. Kyle Brigham of Hudson, Erick Bourdeau of Alton Bay and Manny Cabral each had two RBIs. Daniel Webster is 5-11 overall.
Penn 4-7, Dartmouth 0-4: In Hanover the unbeaten Quakers (15-0, 8-0 Ivy) became the first team to sweep the Big Green at Biondi Park. Nick Ruppert and Jeff Keller each homered for the Big Green (5-16) in the second game.

Dartmouth, which plays at Boston College Tuesday before hosting Holy Cross on Wednesday at 3 p.m., is 2-6 in the Ivy League.
UMass-Dartmouth 5-6, PSU 4-1: In North Dartmouth, Mass., the Panthers fell to 11-8 overall and 1-3 in the Little East Conference.
