NASHUA — Police have arrested a man they say tried to rob a local convenience store Monday but was chased away by an employee with a pipe.

Bryan Rando, 28, of 33 Chagnon St., Hudson, has been charged with one felony count of burglary for afternoon incident at the Lake Street Convenience Store.

This store has been robbed four times in (recent) months," said Lt. Denis Linehan of the Nashua Police Department.

Authorities are trying to determine whether Rando is responsible for any other robberies at the store or at different facilities throughout the city.

Police received a call around 12:15 p.m. Monday about the robbery. According to Linehan, Rando walked into the store, told a clerk that he had a weapon — although no weapon was shown — and demanded cash.

Rando allegedly proceeded to walk behind the counter to gain entry to the cash register himself when a store clerk grabbed a pipe and chased Rando out of the building, said police.

No cash was stolen, and no one was injured in the incident, said Linehan, adding the employee never hit Rando with the pipe. Rando fled the scene in a nearby parked vehicle, and a witness was able to provide the license plate information to authorities.

Police in Hudson eventually stopped the vehicle, and Rando was taken into custody, said Linehan.

"We don't recommend that clerks take matters into their own hands, but in this case, the clerk felt he needed to protect himself," Linehan said.

Rando was held overnight at the police station and was arraigned Tuesday morning at the 9th Circuit Court, Nashua District Division.

Nashua police Tuesday charged Rando with two earlier robberies at the store, one on Feb. 13 and the other Feb. 16. No one was hurt during the commission of the robberies and an undetermined amount of cash was taken in the two previous incidents.
