Governor appoints STEM task force

CONCORD – The state needs to modernize Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) education and Gov. Maggie Hassan has created a task force to lead the effort.

Drawing from the state’s public and private colleges and public schools, its innovative business leaders and parents, the Task Force on Science, Technology, Engineering and Math Education will make recommendations aimed at helping students develop the skills and critical thinking they need in today’s business environment.

“The members of this task force have a diverse background in teaching, school administration, higher education and business, including job creators and innovators in research and development,” Hassan said. “Their service will help our schools modernize STEM education, providing our young people with skills that our businesses believe in, our educators believe in, and our students and families believe in.”

Ross Gittell, chancellor of the Community College System of New Hampshire, will chair the task force. Gittell is the co-founder and co-director of the Green Launching Pad, a business incubator connecting entrepreneurs and private industry with faculty and students throughout the state.
