DERRY — A fox that bit a 5-year-old girl on the ankle Thursday has tested positive for rabies.

The fox was euthanized after it was caught following an extensive search by Derry police, with assistance from Fish and Game. Its carcass tested positive for rabies, police Capt. Vern Thomas said Saturday.

She will now have to undergo a series of shots, officials said.
