Festive evening set for Monarchs

Tonight marks the final regular-season home game for the Manchester Monarchs and the night will be loaded with festivities.

The Monarchs take on the Portland Pirates at 7 p.m. at Verizon Wireless Arena for "Fan Appreciation Night."

Among the highlights, the first 2,000 fans into the building will receive lunch bags, the team will present many awards (including the Union Leader Fan Favorite) and will close the night with the "Shirt Off Our Back" event where fans can win the Monarchs jerseys from the game, presented by the players.

Voting for the Fan Favorite Award ended Friday with 1,258 votes tallied. The winner received 585 votes to win easily.

Other awards to be announced tonight include the Ace Bailey Most Valuable Player award, Mark Bavis Unsung Hero award, Monarchs Community Service award and Manchester Monarchs Booster Club Player of the Year award.

Fans will be chosen at random via raffle to win the game-worn jerseys. Fans will also be eligible to win several other prizes, including gift certificates to local restaurants and other businesses.

Following tonight's game, the Monarchs play at Providence Sunday and then again next Friday in the final regular-season game.

Playoff tickets for the Monarchs will go on sale Monday at 9:30 a.m. for the first three rounds of postseason play. Tickets are available at the Verizon box office and online at manchestermonarchs.com.

Tickets for the first round will also be available by calling Ticketmaster at 1-800-745-3000 or by visiting ticketmaster.com. This will be the Monarchs' 12th playoff appearance in their 13-year history.
