Derry woman accused of burglaries

BRENTWOOD — A Derry woman is facing charges that she burglarized a dozen homes across Rockingham County and either sold or attempted to sell jewelry taken from homes, prosecutors said.

Bonnie Usher, 46, is facing 20 charges in Rockingham County Superior Court for a string of residential burglaries in Auburn, Derry, Londonderry and Windham that happened between September and mid-January.

Usher’s alleged burglary spree ended on Jan. 15 when Derry police pulled over her car while she was driving on South Main Street. But the number of homes Usher allegedly targeted had not been known until a Rockingham County grand jury indicted her on 12 counts of burglary, three counts of attempted burglary, and counts of receiving stolen property and theft by deception. Prosecutors say Usher took jewelry from the homes and sold some of it to a Derry pawn shop and attempted to unload more of it with a local jewelry store in early January. She allegedly broke into six homes in Derry, four in Londonderry and two in Auburn, according to court records.

Usher remains held at the Rockingham County jail pending her charges in superior court.

The day before her arrest she attempted to sell a Burberry watch to a Derry pawn shop but the shop apparently refused to buy it, according to indictments.

When Usher was arrested on Jan. 15, Derry detectives had watched her enter a home and exit a few minutes later with property from the house, according to police. Police checked on the home and found that it had been broken into.

Neighbors on Dexter Avenue had also reported to police that they had seen a woman who resembled Usher walking around a house while the homeowners were not present.

The charges are all Class B felonies, each punishable by up to 3½ to 7 years in state prison.
