Pinkerton Academy of Derry earned its first win of the NHIAA baseball season Wednesday with a 7-6 decision over host Alvirne of Hudson. Connor Donahue led the Astros (1-0) offense with two hits and three RBIs, including a two-run home run in the top of the third. Sophomore John Polichetti picked up his first career varsity win by pitching three scoreless innings in relief. Pinkerton's Nate Rossi and Alvirne's Tyler Brown also had two hits each.

Nashua North 5, Bedford 3: At Nashua, Ricky Constant threw six shutout innings, allowing just one hit to lead Nashua North. Constant allowed one walk and struck out 11 to help North even its record at 1-1. Bedford fell to 0-2. Steve Waible earned the save in relief. Offensively, Spencer Madden had three hits for North and Zach Smith went 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Manchester Central 3, Concord 2: At Gill Stadium, Dario Vitagliano threw a complete game three-hitter on 82 pitches to lead Central. He walked no one and fanned two. Concord hurler Seimou Smith also went the distance on 94 pitches. He allowed five hits. Vitagliano helped his cause with a two-run triple in the first inning. He scored the eventual winning run on a single by Pat Barry.


Salem 24, Manchester Memorial 0: At Manchester, Salem pounded out 26 hits to rout host Memorial. Brittany Wallace went 4-for-4 with two singles and two home runs (one a grand slam) for eight RBIs. Salem got additional hitting from Meghan Williams (4-for-6, two RBIs) and Brooke Murphy (4-for-5). Rachel Towler got the win on the mound, allowing just one hit.

Pinkerton 14, Alvirne 2: In Derry in six innings, Natalie Fabrizio pitched an eight-hitter and struck out nine batters for the Astros. She walked two. Lauren Phillips led the offense with a three-run homer in the second inning.Fabrizio led Pinkerton's 14-hit attack with four hits and drove in three runs. Rachel Byrd and Kinsey Manchester (two RBIs) each had two hits. Kaycee Carbone led Alvirne with three hits.

Girls' lacrosse

Pinkerton 19, Concord 4: At Derry, the Astros led 14-1 at halftime and cruised for there. Pinkerton (1-0) was led offensively by Kennedy Daziel (three goals, two assists), Micaela Capozzo (three goals, assist), Maggie McCarthy (three goals) and Erin Coutts (four goals, assist). Adelaide Symmes had three goals for Concord.

Derryfield 10, Gilford 5: In Manchester, Derryfield (1-0) defeated Gilford (0-2) behind Polly Carter with five goals. Brynn Polgrean (two goals, two assists), Emma Garfield, Hannah Menakaya and Nicole Mayer each found the twine for goals. Derryfield goalie Cat Green had three saves.
