Struggling Fisher Cats defeated again


 

Base hits didn't come easy for the New Hampshire Fisher Cats during Saturday's 3-2 Eastern League loss to the Binghamton Mets at NYSED Stadium.

The Fisher Cats were held to four hits in the game, and saw their record fall to 5-9.

It was a 2-2 game until the bottom of the eighth, when Binghamton shortstop Matt Reynolds scored on a Matt Clark single to give the Mets a lead they wouldn't relinquish. Reynolds had four hits in the victory, which improved Binghamton's record to 9-5.

The Fisher Cats had the game-tying run on base in the ninth, but Chase Bradford was able to collect his third save of the season.

Binghamton starter Rainy Lara allowed two hits and one run in six innings, but Josh Church picked up the win for pitching two innings of relief.

Jack Murphy's solo home run in the seventh was the offensive highlight for the Fisher Cats. The home run, Murphy's first of the season, made it a 2-2 game. Murphy had two of New Hampshire's four hits.New Hampshire reliever Richard Bleier took the loss. Bleier allowed one run on three hits in 2 2/3 innings.

Deck McGuire started on the mound for the Fisher Cats. He held Binghamton to two runs on six hits in five innings. He struck out five and walked one.
