It takes courage to lace up for the Boston Marathon today. It takes courage to stand along the barricades, especially at the finish line, a year after the bombings that killed four and injured hundreds, leaving the streets covered in blood. Today thousands will show the world their courage — and their defiance — by running or cheering on those same streets.
Underestimating Americans is a hallmark of our enemies. From the French in the 1750s and ‘60s to the modern terrorist, everyone has always underestimated our spirit. They always make the same mistake. They assume we will buckle when punched. But that is not what we do.
Today in Boston, the Cradle of Liberty, Americans will gather to show the world that we do not shrink in the face of terror. We do not and will not. Not now, not ever.
