Candia teen faces more counts in connection with burglary

CANDIA — A local teen who was arrested by Raymond police last week on charges he burglarized a family member's home has been booked on related charges in Candia.

According to Candia Police Chief Mike McGillen, 17-year-old Matthew Mahar stole a Troy AR-15 rifle, prescription drugs and a iPad tablet from his uncle's Raymond residence on April 11.

The next morning, Candia police said they spotted Mahar walking on Depot Road, near his residence, and turned him over to Raymond police after he lead investigators to the wooded area where he hid the stolen rifle.

Mahar, who had been booked for burglary and two counts of theft in Raymond, was charged in Candia with a Class A felony for receiving stolen property.

McGillen said Mahar also has a suspended sentence hanging over his head.The teen was sentenced to 60 days in the House of Corrections and a $500 fine after being arrested in 2013 following a domestic assault. He pled guilty to criminal mischief and simple assault charges in exchange for a suspended sentence and suspended fine.

He is being held on $25,000 cash bail following a probable cause hearing Monday.
