Police say three lured contractor to robbery through Craigslist

CANDIA — Three people remained held on bail Monday for allegedly robbing a contractor after luring him to a home in Raymond for a work estimate.

Frank Walton, 25, of Raymond, John Ahern, 23, of Epping, and Charley Ann Martin, 24, of Raymond, were arraigned in 10th Circuit Court, Candia Division, on Monday for a variety of charges related to the April 16 robbery.

All three remained held at the Rockingham County jail in Brentwood. Ahern is charged with robbery, criminal restraint, criminal threatening with a deadly weapon and possession of a controlled drug. Walton is charged with criminal restraint. Martin is facing counts of criminal restraint, attempt to commit robbery and hindering apprehension.

Police said the trio solicited the contractor through Craigslist and asked him to come to the home for a work estimate. Ahern is accused of robbing the man, while Martin and Walton allegedly prevented him from escaping, according to police.

Police were called to an area of Route 27 and Hummingbird Lane last Wednesday at 11:10 a.m. for a report of an assault involving several people.

Raymond police Sgt. David Spinney arrived on the scene first and was told that one of the suspects, armed with a knife, had fled the area.

The search for the three suspects prompted police to notify nearby Raymond High School so it could be put in “a secure state.”

Police located the suspects within 40 minutes after a search behind the home and near the high school.

The school was allowed to resume normal activities within 40 minutes, police said.

The victim sustained minor injuries.

The robbery charges are Class A felonies, punishable by up to 7½ to 15 years in state prison. The remaining charges are all Class B felonies, punishable by up to 3½ to 7 years in state prison.
