Berti walk-off homer wins it for Fisher Cats in 12

Some extra effort was required, but the New Hampshire Fisher Cats extended their winning streak to a season-high three games by beating the visiting Reading Fightin Phils 11-10 in 12 innings Friday night.

Jon Berti’s two-out solo home run ended the contest. It was the first home run of the season for Berti, a second baseman who collected three hits in the game.

Will Browning picked up the win for pitching 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief. Kyle Simon gave up the home run to Berti and took the loss.

The Fisher Cats improved their Eastern League record to 9-10. Reading dropped to 11-7.

Reading took a 10-9 lead when an Anthony Hewitt single drove in Cesar Hernandez in the top of the 10th, but the Fisher Cats tied the game with a run in the bottom half of the inning. Jonathan Jones scored on Ryan Schimpf’s two-out single. Schimpf also had three hits in the victory.

The Fisher Cats scored five runs in the fourth and four in the fifth to take a 9-4 lead after five innings, but Reading came up with five runs in the top of the eighth.
