Dartmouth women break track records

The Dartmouth College women's 4-by-1,500-meter relay team broke the school, Ivy League and New England record on Friday at the Penn Relays at Franklin Field in Philadelphia.

The Big Green quartet of Abby Markowitz, Dana Giordano, Meggie Donovan and Abbey D'Agostino combined to run a time of 17 minutes, 20.87 seconds. The old Dartmouth mark was 17:44.95; the previous New England standard was 17:22.30 (by Providence College, in 1991).

D'Agostino, a senior, ran the anchor leg and posted a 4:08. The other splits were as follows: Markowitz, 4:27.4; Giordano, 4:16.4, and Donovan, 4:29.1. Donovan is a former Manchester Central star from Auburn.

Despite its record-setting performance, the Big Green took third place in the event, behind Villanova (17:16.52) and Stanford (17:16.74).
