BEDFORD - Bedford used a four-goal burst in the third quarter to pull away from Division I Hanover and hung on to win 10-8 in Bedford Saturday.
It was the Division II Bulldogs second win over a Division I opponent this year. They are 5-0 and their winning streak is up to 45 games. The Marauders fall to 3-2.
"We knew all about it," said Hanover coach Jeff Reed about Bedford's streak. "That was our goal today, to be the team that derailed them."
When you can keep the Bulldogs senior captain and leading scorer Dan Colella scoreless as Hanover did you have a good chance to do just that.
"We knew he (Colella) was their best guy," said Reed. "We had our best defenseman on him, but beyond that we didn't do anything extra."But it was a day for the Bedford underclassmen to shine. Junior Tyler Sullivan led the way with three goals, including two in the third quarter.Sophomore Dakota Clark had two goals and an assist. Kyle Colella, also a sophomore, had two goals. "Our underclassmen are who we'll rely on for leadership down the road," said Bedford coach Matt Guerard.
Hanover was led by Jude Arbogast with two goals and an assist. Andrew Huizenga had two goals.
Bedford struck early and was up 4-1 in the first but Hanover would tie the game 4-4 after one.
The Bulldogs went up 6-4 in the second only to have the Marauders come back again to tie the game at the half, 6-6. But the third quarter was all Bedford.
While Hanover tried to slow the game down, Sullivan would score twice and Nick Vailas and Sam Stanton added goals to put Bedford up 10-6 after three periods.
