Stonyfield Farm issues recall alert for YoBaby Pear/Peach for kids, babies

LONDONDERRY — Stonyfield Farm has issued a recall alert for a yogurt product marketed to children and babies.

The product, YoBaby Pear/Peach 6-pack cups, with a UPC number of 052159701161 has a code date of June 5,2014, and were not available for sale until April 23.

Affected batches of YoBaby were recalled on April 15. Esteve Torrens, chief executive officer of Londonderry-based Stonyfield, said very little of the affected batch had made it to store shelves before the potential problem was recognized and the recall ordered.

In a letter to consumers, Torrens, said the company acted immediately after discovering there was a possibility that the yogurt was contaminated with coliform.

The affected yogurt was sold at 122 Target and Walmart stores.

No complaints of illness had been reported at the time the recall was initiated, the company said.

“As a father of young kids, I understand how upsetting an issue like this can be,” Torrens said.

The company is developing “more rigorous food safety protocols” in the wake of the problem.
